SUMMARY:Nova SBE Filmmaking Cycle 24/25: Exploring Pressing Global Themes by Film
DESCRIPTION:Nova SBE Filmmaking Cycle 2024/2025: Exploring Pressing Global Themes through Film \n\n\n\nRegistrations: https://www.eventbrite.pt/e/1049496360867?aff=oddtdtcreator \n\n\n\nNova SBE is excited to present its first Film Cycle\, an initiative bringing together various departments from the School to explore pressing global themes through the art of films. The 2024/2025 cycle will focus on sustainability\, climate action\, art\, and research. Each session will feature a curated selection of short films\, followed by discussions aimed at sparking new ideas and fostering innovative projects. Additionally\, every event will showcase research from Nova SBE\, highlighting the institution’s commitment to addressing these critical topics through both academic and creative lenses. \n\n\n\nThe upcoming session on November 14\, 2024\, at 5:30 PM at the Teresa e Alexandre Soares dos Santos Library will feature the screening of the film Common Ground\, Directed By JOSH TICKELL and REBECCA TICKELL. This thought-provoking documentary delves deep into the intersections of environmental stewardship\, community resilience\, and sustainable agriculture\, bringing to light the urgent need for regenerative solutions. \n\n\n\nFollowing the screening\, we will host a conversation with Carlos Mendes Gonçalves and a speaker TBD\, moderated by the Nova SBE Sustainability Department. This discussion will provide a platform to explore the key themes of the film\, drawing connections to Nova SBE’s ongoing research and initiatives in sustainability. \n\n\n\nJoin us for an evening of insightful dialogue\, as we use the power of film to inspire action and collective learning in addressing the challenges of our time. \n\n\n\n______________ \n\n\n\nAbout Common Ground \n\n\n\nCOMMON GROUND is the highly anticipated sequel to the juggernaut success documentary\, Kiss the Ground which touched over 1 billion people globally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to put $20 billion toward soil health. By fusing journalistic expose’ with deeply personal stories from those in the front lines of the sustainable food movement\, COMMON GROUND unveils a dark web of money\, power\, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how racist practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white\, black\, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate\, save our health\, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late.About the Speakers \n\n\n\nCarlos Mendes Gonçalves is the CEO and President of Casa Mendes Gonçalves\, known for its Paladin brand of vinegars and condiments. Under his leadership\, the company has gained international recognition for its innovation and sustainability. Carlos is committed to regenerative agriculture and forestry\, promoting eco-friendly practices and biodiversity on his business. He is also deeply involved in social responsibility initiatives\, ensuring Casa Mendes Gonçalves operates with strong ethical and environmental values\, making him a respected leader in both the food industry and sustainability.
